The goal of the New Country School Elementary Program is to provide an academic experience that prepares each student to be successful and accomplished.  NCS strives to provide an emotionally supportive climate that will nurture the positive qualities and unique differences of each student.  Our program focuses on each child's individual needs and level of development.  We value both traditional learning models and more progressive learning concepts and strive to integrate both in the classroom.  We include students in class decision-making processes wherever appropriate.  Curriculum is designed to focus on integrating all the academic disciplines.  Evaluation of student progress places value on the quality of work rather than quantity.

Reading and Writing
A balance of whole language and phonics, spelling and the writing process.
Sustained silent reading and oral reading using current children's literature.

 

Mathematics
Hands-on approach using math manipulative combined with skill-based practice.

 
Computer Technology
Computer technology is integrated with all subjects and every elementary student has access to PC's and Mac's.
 
Social Studies/Science
Multi-faceted exploration of the world around us, including field trips and research projects.
Environmental/Outdoor Program

Enrichment Programs
Foreign Language, Arts, Music, Yoga.
Ski Program, January through March, Fridays at King Pine Ski Area in Madison, NH.
                                                 

 

Assessment
Tri-annual ungraded assessment based on the standards of Maine Learning Results in addition to Gardner's Multiple Intelligences with biannual Parent/Teacher Conferences.

 
Portfolios
Portfolios are used  in documenting your child's abilities and strengths as your child grows academically.  Portfolios also showcase your child's artwork, give examples of your child's classroom work, and use anecdotal documentation with accompanying photographs.
